SEARCH -Androscoggin County

SEARCH, which stands for "Seek Elderly Alone, Renew Courage & Hope", promotes independent living for elderly and disabled people in Maine. Services range from home visitation, to help with home and yard chores, to transportation and help with errands. All services are delivered at no cost.

SEARCH is operated by Catholic Charities Maine from its Lewiston offices. It is a non-denominational service.

Caring Hands Volunteer Network - Kennebec & Somerset Counties

The network provides trained volunteers to assist persons recently discharged from the hospital, as well as the elderly, frail, and those living with disabilities and long-term illness. Services include pastoral care, home visitation, transportation, help with errands and grocery shopping, and daily or weekend telephone calls to make sure you're okay.

The network is coordinated by Catholic Charities Maine out of its offices at the St. Paul Center in Augusta.

Greater Bath Elder Outreach Network - Sagadahoc County

Need someone to help you with groceries or errands? Maybe you would just like a companion with whom to walk. If you live in Sagadahoc County, the Greater Bath Elder Outreach Network is there to help. The network provides free services to elderly, disabled, and homebound individuals. It is designed to help them remain independent and in their homes. Services include help with correspondences and paying bills, transportation, visits, and regular telephone reassurance checks.

The network is coordinated by Catholic Charities Maine and funded by the Aging & Disability Resource Coalitition of Bath / Brunswick and the United Way.

Home & Family Services - Aroostook, Cumberland, Somerset, Washington & York Counties

Home & Family Services provides service to elderly clients, disabled individuals, and families in crisis with the goal of allowing them to remain in their homes. Services include grocery shopping and errands, light house cleaning, emotional support, and occasional respite care .

Fees for services are based on household income. All low-income clients receive services free of charge. The service is operated by Catholic Charities Maine and is supported by the Maine Department of Human Services, the United Way, county and municipal governments, businesses, and through donations.

Prescription Drug Assistance

Many elderly Maine residents are eligible for prescription drug assistance and are not taking advantage of it. There are a number of agencies that can help you determine your eligibility.
